Jet Fuel Gelato and The Menthol
Jet Fuel Gelato became one of the most important early parents in Compound’s library. The cultivar combined Jet Fuel, also known as G6, with Gelato, producing floral sweetness, cream, perfume, and diesel intensity. Compound describes it as a blend of Gelato 45, White Diesel, High Octane, and Jet Fuel G6, selected for mint, earth, gas, resin, and useful production traits. Khalifa Mints, Pink Certz, Eye Candy, Vapor Fuel, A.B. Parfait, Red Bullz, and other releases emerged from Menthol-centered work. Using repeat parents made Compound’s large catalog more coherent even as the mothers changed.
Cookies, Apples & Bananas, and Pavé
Compound’s partnership with Cookies moved the breeder from specialist seed circles into a much larger consumer market. Apples & Bananas became the signature collaboration. Cookies currently lists the cultivar as Now N Later crossed with Jet Fuel Gelato, while older descriptions expand its ancestry through Platinum Cookies, Granddaddy Purple, Blue Power, and Gelatti-related material. The cultivar became known for apple, banana, cherry, spice, cream, and gas, with dark flower and a strong head-and-body effect.
Other collaborations broadened the brand’s cultural reach. Pavé was developed through Compound, Cookies, and rapper Quavo, pairing Paris OG with The Menthol and producing earthy mint, fuel, resin, and dense visual appeal. Khalifa Mints combined Khalifa Kush with The Menthol and was selected with Wiz Khalifa as the first major extension of the Khalifa Kush menu. These projects demonstrated that celebrity partnerships could involve phenotype selection and parental planning rather than merely placing a famous name on an existing cultivar.
Grape Gasoline and Cannarado Collaboration
Grape Gasoline joined Cannarado’s Grape Pie with Compound’s Jet Fuel Gelato. The cross became a clear example of collaborative breeding because each parent contributed a recognizable identity. Grape Pie supplied dark fruit, candy grape, and purple potential, while Jet Fuel Gelato brought cream, floral gas, and vigor. The resulting line developed a reputation for grape-lollipop sweetness layered over fuel and became a valuable parent rather than a one-time release.
Compound repeatedly returned to Grape Gasoline through Pink Certz, Gastro Pop, Mellowz, El Chivo, Fruit Riot, and other families. Gastro Pop combines Apples & Bananas with Grape Gasoline, creating a bridge between two of the company’s most recognizable fruit-and-gas lines. Mellowz pairs Cannarado’s Spritzer with Grape Gas and became important enough to anchor a 2026 collection. This repeated use shows Compound’s preference for building related genetic families.
Jokerz #31 and Large-Scale Phenotype Hunting
Jokerz combined White Runtz with Jet Fuel Gelato, but the cultivar’s modern reputation centers on Jokerz #31. Compound reports that the selection emerged from a 180-plant hunt conducted with Waverider Nursery in 2020. Plants were evaluated for trichomes, color, structure, aroma, flavor, and smoke quality, after which #31 underwent further testing and tissue-culture stabilization. The selected clone became known for purple flower, dense resin, floral candy, perfume, and gas.
Jokerz #31 later anchored two seed collections and was crossed with GG4, Apples & Bananas, NYC Diesel, Triangle Kush, Lemon Cherry Gelato, Red Pop, and other mothers. The approach illustrates the difference between breeding a seed population and selecting a commercial clone. Compound created the population, a partner grew enough individuals to reveal its range, and one plant was preserved as the reference expression. Seed descendants can inherit aspects of it, but they are not duplicates of the clone.
Awards and Market Influence
Awards and year-end recognition accelerated Compound’s rise. High Times named Compound among its best cannabis brands of 2022, citing repeated seed drops, collaborations, and competition successes connected to cultivars such as Jokerz, Red Bullz, and Pavé. Pink Certz, a cross of The Menthol and Grape Gasoline, won the 2022 Transbay Challenge III through cultivator Sense and was later included among High Times’ leading strains of the year. These results gave the company credibility beyond promotional photography.
Compound’s wider influence appears in the number of cultivators and breeders using its genetics. Apples & Bananas, Jokerz, Grape Gasoline, Gastro Pop, The Menthol, and Pavé became parents, licensed clones, and retail flower categories across multiple markets. Node Labs, Tissue Culture, and Genetic Technology
Compound’s partnership with San Francisco-based Node Labs added a biotechnology layer to the breeding program. Node used tissue culture to preserve cultivars, clean plant material, maintain authenticated stock, and support stress testing and phenotype evaluation. The companies also worked with Segra International to distribute clean tissue-culture plantlets to licensed producers in Canada and other markets. This addressed a persistent problem in clone culture: mislabeled, diseased, or degraded plants moving through informal networks.
The partnership later expanded into synthetic-seed research. Unlike conventional seeds, these artificial propagules encapsulate pieces of plant tissue so genetically identical cultivars can potentially be stored and distributed in compact form. The technology remains more complex than planting an ordinary seed and is not sexual reproduction, but it reflects Compound’s attempt to combine boutique breeding with agricultural preservation and scaled genetic delivery.
Leadership Transition and Compound Genetics Today
Lynch parted ways with Compound by 2023 and began a separate chapter with Cipher Genetics. His departure does not change his authorship of the company’s foundational breeding work, but Compound continued independently. Felipe Recalde, publicly identified as its chief executive, has overseen a business model involving genetics, partnerships, technology, and international development. Newer Compound releases should therefore not automatically be attributed to Lynch merely because he founded the original brand.
As of 2026, Compound remains active through approved vendors and an official seed platform. Current and recent collections include Jokerz Volumes 1 and 2, Grape Gasoline, Eye Candy, Pavé, The Menthol, Pavé Candy, and Mellowz. Jet Fuel Gelato and The Menthol gave the catalog durable foundations, while Apples & Bananas, Grape Gasoline, Jokerz, Pavé, and Pink Certz translated those foundations into cultivars recognized far beyond breeder circles.
Its deeper legacy is flavor architecture. Compound repeatedly combined fruit, cream, mint, perfume, gas, grape, candy, and earth in ways designed to remain distinct after harvest and consumption. Not every seed can reproduce an award-winning clone, and the large catalog still requires careful selection.
